Sport Knee Surgery
Procedure Overview
Tendons have good blood supply and therefore have a reasonable tendency to heal themselves. If completely detached from bone, they are likely to lengthen as the muscle belly contracts without restraint. Some tendons can heal in a lengthened position, without surgery, and demonstrate good functional outcomes. Others demonstrate poor function regardless of the patient’s functional demands.
Tendon repair is the process of suturing or anchoring a torn tendon end-to-end, or reattaching it to the bone it was torn from with anchors.
